Motivations behind the naming of descendents, and the changes in such naming throughout generations
Stuchlá, Aneta ; Hájková, Eva (advisor) ; Chejnová, Pavla (referee)
Résumé The topic of this paper is a survey into the motivations behind the naming of descendents, and the changes in such naming throughout generations. The survey found that when choosing names for their children, parents take into account various factors. The level of influence of these factors undergoes a change throughout time. 396 samples (children) were obtained for assessment from a total of 212 respondents (parents). The aforementioned children were born within the period commencing in the 1940s and stretching up to the present time - 2011. Altogether, it could be said that the sound of the name itself influences the naming process the most. This is closely followed by aspects of agreement between first name and Christian name, semantics of the specific name and family tradition. All motivations have undergone some degree of change throughout time. The most notable changes are a permanent fall in the influence of family tradition and a permanent rise in other categories of influence. Among the latter we can find those concerning the sound of the name, agreement with Christian name, and semantics of the name. Two further categories of motivation - naming children after famous personalities and after fictitious characters - although continuously rising, have not yet exceeded 10%. Their influence is...
Anthroponyms in Spanish: a contrastive analysis of their use.
PISOS PRADO, Aitor
The present work aims to analyze the potential value of anthroponyms within the didac-tics of Spanish as a Foreign Language. With that purpose, theoretical basis concerning anthroponyms is provided in favor of a solid formal background that will support the following didactic proposal. Likewise, the actual presence of anthroponyms in the Curricular Plan of the Instituto Cervantes is analyzed, as well as other ways of use that it doesn't consider, but that will also inspire the activities presented at the end of this work. We will examine with more depth those anthroponyms integrated in phraseological units (Como Pedro por su casa; En tiempos de Maricasta?a; etc) for what a classification of the different existing phraseological units will be described. This classification will lead to the design of a compendium of phraseological units with these characteristics that will serve as a reference for the didactic proposal.

Hrubá, Eliška ; Chejnová, Pavla (advisor) ; Palkosková, Olga (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with first names in general, a particular attention is, however, given to their usage in communication, to the familiar modifications of first names and to the motivation of addressing by hypocoristic forms as well as to the origin of nicknames. Within the first part, all the theoretical themes are summarised. The focus is primarily aimed towards the overall setting of the issue within the field of onomastics and the role of antroponyms within the linguistic system. The theoretical part further focuses on first names, motivation of their origin, function, transformation of the repertory of first names and their function within communication, language characteristics and naming motives. The issue of first names is enriched with an interpretation about the usage of antroponyms and their auto-nominalisation and along with a historic development of the shift from single-naming towards double-naming. The key part of the theoretical section concerns hypocoristics, the development of the hypocoristic forms of first names, their usage within communication as well as specific categories of hypocoristics and their language and word-forming characteristics. Interest was also put on nicknames and their general characterisation. A practical part of the thesis is based on a proper...

Proper Names as a Potential Indicator of "Strangeness" in Translation of Non-literary Texts
Bičíková, Romana ; Králová, Jana (advisor) ; Hoffmannová, Jana (referee)
The subject of this thesis is proper names in Czech and Spanish language and proper names in translation from Spanish into Czech. The theoretical part of the thesis comprises of an overview of the current state of investigation in the field both in Czech and in Spanish. In Czech linguistics, onomastics is a comparatively developed discipline. In Spanish, it is mostly grammatical manuals that deal with proper names. In both languages, authors tend to agree on the definition and classification of proper names into anthroponyms, toponyms and chrematonyms; however, Spanish authors usually do not separate chrematonyms as a category under such name. Furthermore, nobody has yet defined or classified the functions of proper names in Spanish language (an action which has already been done for the Czech language). Opinions on the translation of proper names differ to a large degree. Authors recognize proper names as polyfunctional units and agree that their translation (or non-translation) is in large measure conditioned by norms and specific historically conditioned conventions; by the function of the text, text type and genre; by the relationship of the working languages and so on. Authors also suggest their own set of strategies which can be used in the transfer of proper names from one language into...
